যুগ হচ্ছে চারটি সত্য, ত্রেতা, দ্বাপর ও কলি। প্রত্যেক চতুর্যুগের অন্তে বেদাদি লুপ্ত হয়ে যায়, সেইসময় সপ্তর্ষিগণই স্বর্গলোক থেকে অবতীর্ণ হয়ে তার প্রচার করেন। প্রতি সত্যযুগের আদিতে মানুষের ধর্ম – মর্যাদা স্থাপন করার জন্য স্মৃতিশাস্ত্রের রচয়িতা মনুর প্রাদুর্ভাব হয়; সেই মন্বন্তরের অন্ত পর্যন্ত তৎকালীন দেবতাগণ যজ্ঞ- ভাগ ভোগ করে থাকেন। স্থিতিকারক ভগবান বিষ্ণু চার যুগে নিজের মতো করে ব্যবস্থা করেন এবং সর্বভূতের মঙ্গলের ব্যবস্থা করেন। সমগ্র প্রাণীদের কল্যাণে তৎপর এই সর্বভূতাত্মা সত্যযুগে কপিল ইত্যাদি রূপ ধারণ করে পরম জ্ঞানের উপদেশ প্রদান করেন এবং বেদযজ্ঞের মাধ্যমে পরম সত্যকে প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। ত্রেতাযুগে তিনি সর্বসমর্থ প্রভু চক্রবর্তী ভূপাল হয়ে দুষ্টদের দমন করে ত্রিলোককে রক্ষা করেন। দ্বাপরযুগে তিনি বেদব্যাসরূপ ধারণ করে একই বেদকে চারভাগে ভাগ করেন এবং বহুশাখায় বিভক্ত করে তাকে বহু ভাগে বিস্তারিত করেন। এইভাবে দ্বাপরে বেদের বিস্তার করে কলিযুগের শেষে ভগবান কল্কিরূপ ধারণ করে দুরাচারী মানুষদের সৎপথে প্রবৃত্ত করেন। এইভাবে অনন্তাত্মা প্রভু ভগবান শ্রীবিষ্ণু এই সমগ্র জগতের উৎপত্তি, পালন এবং বিনাশ করতে থাকেন। এই জগতে এমন কোনো বস্তু নেই, যা তাঁর থেকে ভিন্ন। জয় বেদ ভগবান শ্রীবিষ্ণুর জয়।

 ভগবান শ্রীকৃষ্ণের অলৌকিক শক্তি শৈশবকাল থেকেই দেখতে থাকেন গোপগণ। গোবর্ধন পর্বত একহাতে তুলে ধরে রেখে শৈশবকালে তিনি অলৌকিক লীলা দেখান ব্রজবাসীদের। এই লীলা দেখে গোপগণ তাঁকে ভগবান রূপে পূজা করতে শুরু করলে তিনি তাঁদেরকে বলেন—“ যদি বোহস্তি ময়ি প্রীতিঃ শ্লাঘ্যোহহং ভবতাং যদি। তদাত্মবন্ধুসদৃদৃশী বুদ্ধির্বঃ ক্রিয়তাং ময়ি।। নাহং দেবো ন গন্ধর্বো ন যক্ষো ন চ দানবঃ। অহং বো বান্ধবো জাতো নৈতচ্চিন্ত্যমিতোহন্যথা”।। অর্থাৎ আমার প্রতি যদি আপনাদের প্রীতি থাকে আর যদি আপনাদের প্রশংসার পাত্র হই, তাহলে আপনারা আমার প্রতি বান্ধব- বুদ্ধি করবেন।। আমি দেব নই, গন্ধর্ব নই, যক্ষ বা দানবও নই, আমি আপনাদের বন্ধুরূপেই জন্মেছি। অতএব আপনারা এই বিষয় নিয়ে আর চিন্তা করবেন না।। ভগবান শ্রীকৃষ্ণের এই মধুরবাণী শুনে গোপ- গোপিনীরা তাঁকে নিজের বন্ধু- সখা- আত্মীয়রূপে গ্রহণ করে তাঁর সাথে এক হয়ে গেলেন। আর তাঁরা কোনরূপ মায়ামোহদ্বারা আচ্ছন্ন ধর্মের আশ্রয়ে থাকলেন না। তাই তাঁদেরকে পার্থিব জগতের চাকচিক্যতার মোহ আচ্ছন্ন করতে পারতো না। যা দেবতাদের পক্ষেও অতি দুর্লভ সেই দিব্য কর্ম – ধর্ম – ঐশ্বর্যের আশ্রয়ে থেকে গোপ- গোপিনীরা ভগবান শ্রীকৃষ্ণের সাথে নিত্যলীলায় রত থাকতেন তাঁর অন্তরঙ্গ সখা হয়ে। জয় বেদ ভগবান শ্রীকৃষ্ণের জয়।
